By Megan Thomas

An old faithful, for sure. I read this at school, and have been thinking a lot lately about how I should re-read it with a non-teenage/“memorising the themes, quotes and symbolism of everything” state of mind.
That said, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel is still a literary marvel and it astounds me that no matter the time or socio-political context you read it, the splendidly spoiled lives of his characters are always relevant. Also, if your copy doesn’t look like it’s made it through the war and back, does it even count as a classic?
