The Old Man And The Sea

This was my first Hemingway, and I am blown away by the simplicity and stripped back nature of the writing. I’ve read people describe his writing this way, but just assumed they meant it in more of a “simple… for a classic” kind of way.

Whether a fable of resilience, or a parable of foolhardiness, this story gets so much right with so little: an interpretation of humanity through an old Cuban fisherman’s lone battle with a bloody big fish. I’m looking forward to reading it again – it’s a quick read, too – because even as I was reading I was dually aware of the things I was thinking as well as the things I wasn’t.
