There’s a young 15-year-old boy called Christopher Boone, who we assume is on the autism spectrum, though the author often talks about the specifics not being the point. He describes himself instead as “a mathematician with some behavioural difficulties”.
He is under suspicion for killing his neighbour’s dog, so decides to take after his favourite detective, Sherlock Holmes, and solve the mystery himself. The major obstacle being that his mystery-solving is limited by the fact he doesn’t understand human emotions, can’t stand to be touched, and won’t eat if his food is touching.
