I reviewed this for the December edition of Buzz Magazine in the Book of the Month slot, which you can get for free all over South Wales now.
I must admit that I went into reading it a little sceptical – it was like the crime/thriller equivalent of naming a romance novel ‘Love at First Sight’. However, this apprehension put me in good stead because it meant I was really pleasantly surprised by the novel and was taught a valuable lesson about being title-judgey.
Set in Mynydd Du (the Welsh Black Mountains), it follows the story of a young man thrust somewhat unwillingly into the world of organised crime, betrayal and, of course, scorching revenge. For those looking for a quick but unique crime read, which remarkably has its roots firmly planted in the author’s real life, then pick up a copy of Candy Jar Books’ latest publication.
