Naomi Kruger’s debut novel is really entertaining and engaging. Though not flawless – is anything? – it ticks all the boxes for a captivating yet quick read.
The book takes us through a day in the life of May, who is grappling with dementia in a home. This single day is interspersed with chapters from the past of those who were important in May’s life. I was pleasantly surprised by how successful Kruger’s use of the first person is – every character speaks in the first person, yet they all have a distinct and interesting voice. It’s also funny, which is always a bonus! Give it a read.
