No Good Brother, set in Vancouver, is both a harsh yet sensitive exploration of brotherhood, as well as a funny, entertaining road novel.
Tim, having just returned from a fishing season, is approached by his brother Jake to undertake what can only be described as A Very Wild Goose Chase… only the wild goose is a prized horse, and they’re the ones being chased. The two must scheme to steal the horse for a good fee for some no-good friends of Jake.
It’s fast-paced without being rushed, pausing on seemingly unimportant detail with astounding awareness. The dialogue is fantastic and made me laugh out loud, too (and yes, I did think it was inappropriate to say “LOL” on this page.)
