The Accident

By Megan Thomas

Despite the seemingly obvious sides, you don’t really end up picking them with the empathetic, human, wholesome way each character has been written in the first person.

Then there’s Julia’s absent mother Catherine, keeping much darker secrets than anyone in her life realises and still clinging onto the hope that her comatose husband Mike will wake up after over two decades.

It’s set in Johannesburg but reads universally, and is really funny whilst sensitively dealing with topics of loss, adultery, friendship, suicide and grief.
