These are delicious. The sleeve-blurb described Celia Fremlin’s stories as “a little Patricia Highsmith, a touch of Shirley Jackson” and best know I have no clue who Patricia is but I bloody love Shirley Jackson.
This series is the bomb, and this particular one is two short stories, both similarly ghostly plots with mother-daughter dynamics and a hefty helping of repression. I finished them in an afternoon. What’s your favourite spooky story?
